Speeding motorist denies travelling at the speed of sound

A Malaysian motorist was shocked to receive a speeding ticket which claimed he was travelling at 712mph - almost the speed of sound. Lim Ang Hing doesn't claim to be completely innocent, but says his speedometer only goes up to 161mph. Police said the problem on the ticket is probably a technical glitch. Lim received a summons for speeding down Malaysia's north-south highway last October, The Star newspaper reports. It's not the first time a Malaysian motorist has been ticketed for driving near the speed of sound.   [...cont]

In February, a taxi driver complained after receiving a speeding ticket for driving at 696 mph. The speed limit on the highway is 56 mph. Sound travels through air at room temperature at 758 mph.
